How It Works
- When your local customers search for you or your products or services you want them to find you fast.
- Local search will put your business front and center at the top of the first page of search results.
- Local search will be the primary way people find local businesses.
- Local search will replace Yellow Pages advertising.
- Local search costs less than Yellow Pages advertising.
- Google, Yahoo! and MSN offer outstanding local search programs.
Local Search Options
We will use Google local search as our example. Yahoo and MSN also offer effective local search options. Google offers basic local search for free allowing you to submit your local, regional and national business location information to work with Google maps. When a person searches for a business like yours a map will be returned at the top of the search page with a marker locating your business. To the right of the map will be a key to the locations on the map with a link to your business.
Google offers a more sophisticated paid version of local search that is integrated with your paid Google AdWords program. You bid on your best keywords and if you are high bidder you will come up on page 1 of the paid search results column with enhanced location and business service information. Vantage21st will guide you through participating in both of these powerful local search programs as well as their counterparts at Yahoo! and MSN.
Basic Google Local Search Example
Example showing Google Maps basic local search: a person searching for hotels in Bellingham Washington enters the following key words in the Google, MSN or Yahoo! search field.

After clicking on "Search" Google returns the following localized search results.

Try this out: search for a specific type of business in a town near you. Combine key words and key phrases like restaurants, landscape services, building design and thrift store with a city name and the state abbreviation.
All the businesses listed in the example above are collaborating with Google to have their locations and websites prominently listed on Google Maps.
